Talking 'bout Texas — the social side of Viva Fresh

vivavi

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Just a few short years ago, what is now the Viva Fresh Expo, held here at the JW Marriot Hill Country Resort & Spa March 31-April 2, was the Texas Produce Association Convention.

That event typically was a couple hundred growers and associated industry types getting together on South Padre Island for a three-day break before getting back to business.

Boy how times have changed. Viva Fresh has gone from a standing start a couple of years ago to a significant regional show with more than 1,500 attendees and a waiting list for exhibitors.

Our Maggie Giuffrida talked with leading lights like Bret Erickson, Texas International Produce Association president and chief executive officer, current TIPA Chairman Jimmy Bassetti of J&D Produce, former Chairman Dante Galeazzi of Crescent Fruit, and incoming Chairman Jimmy Garza of Bebo Distribution about the growth and evolution of the show.

In true Texas style, those conversations happened at some of the rocking social events connected with Viva Fresh, from a post-golf tournament lawn party to the elegant opening reception.

Stay tuned next week for our look at the Viva Fresh host city of San Antonio and a no-holds-barred video from the Viva Fresh golf tournament
