Viva Fresh attendees get a sneak peek at the new San Antonio Wholesale Produce Market

aba

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Viva Fresh attendees got a sneak peek at the sparkling new San Antonio Wholesale Produce Market with a pre-grand opening tour as part of the expo schedule March 31. Our Maggie Giuffrida was on-hand for an up-close look.

When SAWPM officially opens April 6, it will bring some much needed relief to the area produce scene. Years in the planning, the Abasto Corp. project has room for some 60 tenants in phase one.

Abasto expects SAWPM will draw some traffic away from McAllen, TX, where much of the Eastern-bound Mexican produce supply now crosses into the U.S. It will also give growers the opportunity to deal directly with buyers, in many cases for the first time ever.

Plans are already under way for phase two and the market will keep expanding for years to come.

Look for more from Viva Fresh in the coming days, including reports from the trade show floor, the social scene and the golf tournament, all delivered Texas-style.
