Growing regions expecting a shot of cold, rain

The forecast is for up to 0.75 inches of rain this weekend in Culiacan and cold temps next week. Look for the rain to start Sunday, receiving half an inch and continuing into Monday and Tuesday. As the storm clears out, look for Wednesday to have the coldest temps of the season so far. Wednesday will have a high of 71 and an overnight low of 44. Thursday night will have a min temp of 45. Min temps will finally return to the 50s by Saturday night.weat

Look for similar temps and rain in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. La Cruz, south of Culiacan, will see rain as well but not such cold overnight temps.

Between the rain and the cold temps look for supplies to tighten and possible qualities issues. You might want to stock up this week on tomatoes and other items coming from these regions.

Florida to see rain and cold temps
Florida is expected to see rain this weekend along with colder temps. Look for rain in the all major southern Florida growing regions on Saturday followed by some cold temps on Sunday. The forecast is for half an inch of rain in Belle Glade, Immokalee and Homestead on Saturday. Temps throughout the region on Sunday will be highs in the upper 60s and lows in the mid-40s. Look for a possible slowdown in production.

Plant City is expected to avoid the rain, which is good news for the strawberry growers.

Max temps will return to the 80s by Tuesday but there is another chance of rain next Thursday, Feb. 6.

Warm temps out west this weekend followed by cooler temps
Temps in California today and tomorrow by jump by 10 degrees over yesterday’s highs. Look for max temps in Oxnard and Santa Maria in the mid-70s and min temps in the mid-50s. Coachella and Yuma will see max temps in the 80s and min temps in the low 50s.

Look for a possible uptick on volumes of strawberries out of Oxnard and Coachella as well as possible effects on lettuces in Yuma.

Temps will cool again on Monday, and Tuesday will max temps only reaching into the mid-60s and mins in the mid-30s throughout the desert and coastal regions. Plan accordingly to take advantage of these temperature swings.

Rain coming to Mexican lime region
Martinez de la Torre, Veracruz will definitely see rain today and tomorrow with cooler temps tomorrow. Look for up to 0.75 inches of rain today and the same amount tomorrow. Max temps tomorrow will only reach 65.
