Stemilt, Peirone Produce announce Apple Cup Winners

For the second straight year, Peirone Produce and its partner retailers located in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana teamed up for an Apple Cup competition. Unlike the annual football game between University of Washington and Washington State University where the most points win, this Apple Cup was focused on the biggest increase of actual apple sales, both at the retail level and within Peirone internal sales.Peirone-Apple-Cup-Angie-McInnisStemilt Marketing Director Roger Pepperl, Peirone Produce President and CEO Mike Kamphaus, and Angie McInnis, Peirone salesperson and sales category winner.

Sponsored by Stemilt and held throughout the month of October, the two winners and six runners-up were named last week at Peirone offices in Spokane, WA. Cloninger’s Harvest produce manager, Amanda Robnett, and owners Jerry and Betty Cloninger, traveled from Kamiah, ID, to take home the grand prize for the retail category. They received the official Apple Cup trophy along with a Yeti cooler. For the sales category, Angie McInnis of Peirone Produce took home the trophy and Yeti cooler.

The runners-up for the Retail category and winners of a Kindle Fire were:

  • Barney’s Harvest Foods in Orofino, ID
  • St. Marie’s Harvest Foods in St. Maries, ID
  • Glenwood IGA in Orofino, ID

Runners-up in the sales category and winners of a Kindle Fire were Jim Smith, Ken Brown and Larry Gilbert.

Peirone President Mike Kamphaus and Stemilt Marketing Director Roger Pepperl delivered the awards. Pepperl said the Peirone Apple Cup contest was a “huge success and smart of Peirone and its partner retailers to use friendly competition as a way to ignite apple sales of both bulk apples and Stemilt’s Lil Snappers kid-size three-pound apple program across the Northwest during October National Apple Month celebrations.”
