Index Fresh, a grower-owned packing, marketing and shipping company located in Bloomington, CA, has added Bailey DiIoia to its field staff. He will be working with Gary Nichols to serve California's Ventura County growers.
“Index has been around for a hundred years and it’s great to be a part of that legacy," DiIoia said. "This is a company where the board members are farmers. They understand grower issues. I’m looking forward to meeting growers in Ventura County.”
DiIoia has a bachelor's degree in communications from Sacramento State University and a degree in horticulture from American River College. He turned his focus to agriculture after he injured his arm playing baseball for Sacramento State.
Previously DiIoia held an internship in the cut flower industry in Carpinteria, CA, and he has also helped manage a small avocado grove on his parents’ property.
His first job opportunity with avocados came in Carpinteria, where he worked for a farm manager and connected with Index Fresh. DiIoia is a recent graduate from the 16-month Agriculture Leadership Foundation Program.
Index Fresh distributes premium avocados from California, Mexico, Chile and Peru under the "AvoTerra" brand. It provides a year-round supply to large retailers, small specialty retailers and the foodservice industry both in the U.S. and Asia. The company has been in business since 1914 and entered the import avocado industry in 1991 to accommodate the growing demand for avocados.
