This past April, Richard Pazderski, the former director of sales for Bland Farms LLC, joined Utah Onions Inc. as the company’s director of business development. “I think it’s going to be a great opportunity,” he told The Produce News July 17. “There’s a very good team in place. The [company] is in a unique stage in its growth.”
Utah Onions is headquartered in Syracuse, UT, and is one of the nation’s leading grower-shippers of quality yellow, red, white, sweet and organic onions. The company has growing locations in Utah, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, with an in-house transportation company in Colorado. These diverse locations, along with around-the-clock transportation, allow Utah Onions to meet the ongoing needs of all customers in an efficient and timely manner.
Glennville, GA, is still Mr. Pazderski’s home base of operations. But he said he plans to travel extensively in the coming months to visit major retailers. “I have a lot of retail experience in the produce industry,” he stated. “Retail for us is getting in front of that end user in the store.”
Owner Shawn Hartley said Mr. Pazderski is a welcome addition to the company. “We want to diversify our retail business,” he said of strategic plans and Mr. Pazderski’s role in implementing new programs. “Our constant goal at Utah Onions is to accommodate the needs of our customers.”
The company ships product to all market sectors in North America. “Service and quality are everything,” Mr. Pazderski stated. “As our business grows, we want to keep a focus on this.”
One of the advantages Utah Onions offers its retail customers is out-of-the-box thinking. “We are relatively young,” Mr. Pazderski commented. “We don’t have hard-and-fast programs in place. We see a definite benefit to retail with specific programs that address local markets. We can work with retailers.”
