Loop-Lund partnership booming, requiring new employee and more space for imported berries

Business is booming at Loop Fresh Produce in McAllen, TX. An alliance with the Allen Lund Co. in Los Angeles forged last year has been so successful the company has recently expanded its berry-storage capacity and added a new employee.

The company is also expanding its LTL transportation services into the Northeast and Midwest, in addition to major markets in the Southeast and Texas.

(Photo courtesy of Loop)“Together Loop and Lund have put together a service package that can assist importers and distributors in effectively distributing their product direct to customers’ facilities throughout the eastern U.S. marketplace,” said Loop Vice President of Business Development John McGuire. “Some shippers choose to redistribute their products from a forwarding facility in the Northeast. Our services allow shippers to ship direct to retail [distribution centers] in these important markets, reducing the overall time and cost to make deliveries.”

With McAllen situated just across the border from Mexico, Loop benefits from increased berry production out of Mexico. Demand has been so great for the upcoming fall and winter season that the company has “increased storage capacity by installing 1,400 pallet positions of push-back racking and will have an additional Tectrol line installed by Transfresh Corporation in October,” McGuire said.

And demand for the combined Loop-Lund services has increased to the point where a new employee, Juan Garcia, has come aboard to recruit top-quality drivers and coordinate outbound loading.

“Juan came to our attention while hauling berries for our program, with his four trucks hauling intrastate during last season,” said Scott Fletcher, who manages Lund’s Dallas office. “This year he agreed to come to work for us full time, working on-site at Loop’s facility coordinating outbound shipments and recruiting quality carriers.”

Said McGuire, “Loop provides quality cooler services, quality control and repack capabilities. Our collaboration and process improvements we are implementing with the Allen Lund Company mean customers have a partner focused on more than a single part of the supply chain, leading to more consistent on-time deliveries.”

Both companies will be exhibiting at PMA Fresh Summit in October in New Orleans. Loop will be in Booth No. 5255 while Allen Lund will have Booth No. 1503.
