Dean Taylor is the director of foodservice sales and commodity planning for Mastronardi Produce/Sunset, a leading producer of greenhouse vegetables with headquarters in Leamington, ON, Canada. He said that the company is exhibiting at booth number 35 at the Produce Marketing Association Foodservice Conference & Expo in Monterey, CA, July 26-28.
“We will be promoting our ‘Sunset’ brand ‘Kumato’ Simply Brown Unique Tomato,” said Taylor. “I’ll be joined at the expo by Ken Silveira, president of Mastronardi West, Nancy Pickersgill, event planning and communication manager, and Pam Cherwak, manager of foodservice sales.”
The company is also launching its new “Sunset” “Loomato” tomato at the PMA Foodservice expo.
“These beautifully fresh, old-world tomatoes are harvested on the vine for maximum aroma and flavor,” said Taylor. “Discovered by accident in Europe, these uniquely beautiful tomatoes are now available in North America.”
Mastronardi Produce ships its products across North America and it exports. It also distributes nationally through all major broadline distributors, as well as through over 100 independent operators.
Taylor said the company distributes to a wide range of foodservice customers, noting that, “We feel that the casual dining segment is the fastest growing for dining out options.
“As a grower specializing in high flavor and unique varieties, we are enjoying an increase in chefs focusing on making produce more of a feature on their menus,” he added.
Mastronardi Produce’s headquarters in Ontario is going through a major expansion this year.
“Our facility will double in size and be more efficient in distribution,” Taylor explained.
“The increase in space is related to the company adding additional greenhouse acres. Mastronardi Produce continues to seek out opportunities that are innovative,” he continued. “Our newest state-of-the-art greenhouse in Coldwater, Michigan, is located in an area that enables us to distribute locally grown tomatoes on the vine and grape tomatoes to four surrounding states.”
