Magnaghi joins F.C. Bloxom Co. at new Walla Walla office

F.C. Bloxom Co., headquartered in Seattle, has expanded its presence with the creation of a new office in Walla Walla, WA. Bryon Magnaghi, a produce industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience, has been hired as sales manager to spearhead operations at the location.

“The company has been around for many, many years,” Mr. Magnaghi told The Produce News. “I have a history of working with them. The goal for me is to expand business outside the core business.”

BloxomBryon MagnaghiF.C. Bloxom began selling produce more than 75 years ago, starting with apple-growing operations in Washington’s Yakima Valley. Today, cousins Jeff Hawes, William F. Bloxom and Robert B. Bloxom manage company operations.

“The company now exports over 50 commodities of fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts to over 20 countries worldwide,” Mr. Magnaghi said.

Mr. Magnaghi will handle nationwide sales of commodities such as onions, potatoes, asparagus, apples and pears. “We will be shipping Walla Walla sweet onions, as well as continuing with other sweets, yellow and red onions out of the Walla Walla area this summer and fall,” he said.

Mr. Magnaghi said that he has built good relationships with onion growers in the Walla Walla Valley. “We’re experienced Walla Walla sweet onion people. We’re going to have promotable volume from beginning to end,” he said of the coming sweet onion season. Product will begin to move in mid-June and continue into mid-August.

He said growing conditions have been good in 2013. “The crop looks really good now,” he said. “The onions are really clean.” He anticipated good sizing this season. Packing locations are GFSI-certified and the onions will be stickered with barcodes. “Our goal is to market nationwide and into Canada,” he added.
