The event, which was held at the Westin Hotel, here, drew 500 produce professionals. The Moulin Rouge theme included a French-inspired motif featuring sketch artists like one might see in the streets of Paris. The evening also featured the always-popular cigar bar, where men and women alike puffed to their hearts content as a band played in the background.
Although the new board and officers officially took over at the beginning of this calendar year, this marked their first public introduction to the membership.
Joining Mr. Miller as officers of the council are Chairman-elect Rick Cruz of Vons/A Safeway Co. and Secretary/Treasurer Mike Casazza of Apio.
Rounding out the executive committee are Patty Knoll of Temkin International, who is immediate past chairman; Ken Ewalt of Ready Pac, who is past chairman representative; and Harland Heath of Heath & Lejeune, who is honorary past chairman.
This year’s newly elected board members are Dave Howald of the California Avocado Commission, Debbie Jackson of Supervalu/Albertsons and Jeff Oberman of the United Fresh Produce Association. The returning members of the board are Mark Carroll of Gelson’s/Mayfair Markets, Greg Corrigan of Raley’s Supermarkets, Dan De La Rosa of Ralphs Grocery Co., Kent Kuwata of Smart & Final Corp., Wes Liefer of Pura Vida Farms, Brad Martin of Perimeter Sales & Merchandising, Mike O’Leary of Boskovich Farms Inc., Marvin Quebec of Quebec Distributing Co., Roger Schroeder of Stater Bros. Markets and Rich Van Valkenburg of Deminski, Van Valkenburg & Associates.
