The week of June 22 held not one, but two photoshoots for the team behind watermelon promotions and marketing. While keeping safe social distancing practices in place, the National Watermelon Promotion Board staff executed two photoshoots: one for consumer recipe photography and one for retail and foodservice assets such as type and format photography. To source the yellow and seeded watermelon for the shots, Megan McKenna and Juliemar Rosado day-tripped from Orlando, FL, to Cordele, GA.
At the local Visual Cuisines food photography studio, Stephanie Barlow and Summer Walker oversaw three days of recipe and carving shots, both creating brand new recipes and reshooting some carvings that needed a modern day facelift, all to the tune of using the whole watermelon. To help populate Watermelon.org and keep in line with the back to basics and simplicity themes, all the recipes shot are uncomplicated with a small number of ingredients that the everyday consumer would easily find and already have on their grocery lists. At the food studio, food stylists and photographers collaborate with the team on the look, feel, tone and taste of the new watermelon recipes.
