FPFC luncheon raises big bucks for City of Hope

2-North-shore-and-rogerCERRITOS, CA — The Fresh Produce & Floral Council's August luncheon, held Wednesday, Aug. 7, here, resulted in a generous contribution to the City of Hope, the Duarte, CA-based cancer research hospital that is the favored charity of the local produce industry.

Throughout the year, the Food Industries Circle of the City of Hope, which is comprised of Southern California retailers and suppliers, donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to the hospital through various fundraising events. Each August, the FPFC devotes its regular luncheon meeting to the organization, complete with a fundraising raffle and straight donations to the City of Hope. Tens of thousands of dollars was raised during the event, which attracted about 300 Southern California produce professionals.

After the luncheon, a reception was held honoring industry icon Frieda Caplan of Frieda's Inc., as she recently turned 90 marking close to 60 years in the produce industry.
