All aboard in San Diego

SAN DIEGO — The United Fresh Produce Association kicked off its 2013 convention, here, with an opening reception held May 14 aboard the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier that is now a museum docked in the San Diego Bay. nunes-et-alKristy Nunes of The Nunes Co., Katie Harreld of Ippolito and Margo Morrison of TLC Custom Farming were aboard the USS Midway for the opening reception.The impressive size of the vessel was only matched by the turnout by industry members, who seemingly filled most of the available deck space as they listened to a live band, reconnected and enjoyed some delicious culinary offerings inspired by Mexican avocados, courtesy of the sponsor, Avocados From Mexico.

Perhaps the only let down was the cancellation of a skydiving exhibition due to poor visibility.

Tom Stenzel, president and chief executive officer of United Fresh, said that the excitement was palpable as members geared up for the show. "There is great energy tonight, and we are looking forward to another outstanding convention."
