McAllen, TX-based Val Verde Vegetable Co., which was gearing up for the start of its 2012-13 greens season in mid-to-late October, announced the hiring of CLYDE WATSON JR. as its greens harvest supervisor.
Mr. Watson joined Val Verde over the summer, replacing longtime greens supervisor Tony Guzman, who retired. In his new role with Val Verde, he will oversee all aspects of production, including planting, fertilization, irrigation, pest control and harvest. In addition, he will manage harvest crews and ensure food-safety compliance.
Growing up on his family’s farm near Tampico, Mexico, Mr. Watson gained valuable experience in the produce industry, which has proven to be a huge asset during his nearly 20-year career in the greens business, managing farming operations for major Texas greens shippers.
“I have know Clyde for years and have absolute respect for his wealth of knowledge in the area of farming and harvesting,” said Frank Schuster, president of Val Verde Vegetable Co. “Clyde is a welcome addition to our staff and will be instrumental in our plans to grow our production and continue to add new items.”
