Watsonville, CA-based California Giant Berry Farms announced GARY BERTONE as its logistics manager on May 9.
In his new role, Mr. Bertone will be responsible for managing all prepaid freight for customers, track daily freight rates and negotiate rates with carriers, according to the company press release.
Mr. Bertone is a 33-year veteran of the industry,having previously worked for Champ Logistics and Cappurro Marketing.
“I am truly excited to be part of this team and working with friends here in my home town,” Mr. Bertone said in the release. “I look forward to building this program into a profitable position for the company.”
California Giant created this new position to ensure quality and efficiency in serving customers and growers as the company continues to expand acreage and berry types both domestically and internationally.
“Due to Gary’s experience and reputation in the industry, we are very happy to have him on board here,” Bill Moncovich, president and chief executive officer of Cal Giant, said in the press release. “He was able to hit the ground running as we enter peak berry season and is already showing great results for us.”
