Clarence (Kelly) Piepkorn of Moorhead, MN, died surrounded by his family June 9 after a long battle with cancer. He was 81.
Mr. Piepkorn was born on October 9, 1932 in Stanley, ND, to Herman and Olga (Hoaas) Piepkorn. He grew up farming and graduated from Stanley High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1952 until 1954, after which he worked in the oil fields of Colorado and North Dakota as well as for the railroad. He used the G.I. Bill to attend North Dakota Agricultural College (North Dakota State University) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics and education.
Mr. Piepkorn worked for Midland Cooperatives in Minneapolis and was its district sales manager in Warren, MN, for nine years. He was co-owner of Valley Chemical Laboratories in Fargo from 1970 until 1990. He was the owner of Piepkorn's Inc. and started Peplawn Corp. in 1984 (now run by his son).
Mr. Piepkorn was a member of the VFW in Pelican Rapids, MN, and a 60-year member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Piepkorn; sons G. Scott Piepkorn and Jon Piepkorn; daughter Stacy Piepkorn; two grandchildren, Jacob Whitmore Lamb and Brienna Louise Lamb; brother Merrill (Connie) Piepkorn; sisters Lila (John) Erickson, Janet (Ralph) Hayes and Lenora (Bill) Weinerth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, H. Donald Piepkorn and LeRoy Piepkorn.
