Supervalu announced Aug. 13 that John Jefferson has been named vice president of produce merchandising.
Jefferson will oversee the produce planning process and its execution; lead sourcing strategy development; and drive quality control efforts, with the goal of advancing company's competitive advantage in quality, taste, freshness and in-store experience, according to a Supervalu press release. In his new role, Jefferson will oversee retail produce merchandising for the company's 191 retail stores, and he will provide guidance and expertise to Supervalu's independent merchandising teams, which serve about 1,900 stores across the country.
