Charles (Chuck) Collings, a longtime member of the grocery industry, died June 8 at the age of 87.
Mr. Collings spent nearly 50 years holding various positions at the West Sacramento grocery chain, including time as the president and chief executive officer of Raley’s Superstores.
After his retirement in 1998, Mr. Collings continued to serve on the company’s board, holding the title of CEO emeritus.
According to an article in the Sacramento Bee, Mr. Collings began his grocery career early in life, taking over as the store manager of an Ada, OK, store at the age of 16.
"Chuck was Raley's,” Michael Teel, current Raley's president and CEO and the grandson of founder Tom Raley, said in the article. “He was a strong leader who set high expectations for business performance and a moral tone for all to follow."
Mr. Collings was also a World War II veteran, having served three years in the Navy.
At this time, final arrangements have not been made.
