It’s show time; trade pacts in spotlight

It’s show time. NORCAL held its biennial Fun ‘N Sun Weekend earlier this month, and we have a report filed at press time from the show.

Also in this issue are photos from the International Floriculture Expo in Miami Beach, FL, which will move to New Orleans next summer. The Southern California Expo of the Fresh Produce & Floral Council was also held this month in Anaheim, CA.

Meanwhile, the controversy over fugitive U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden leaked into the Ecuador trade agreement saga, making any sort of extension unlikely at press time (see story, page 61). In the trade agreement flap, importers here were reportedly factoring the new 6.8 percent tariff on flowers from Ecuador into their business plans.

The season in floral shows continues into fall, with Expo Flora Russia, Proflora in Colombia, the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit, the Wholesale Florist & Florist Supplier Distribution Conference and the International Floriculture Trade Fair in Holland all on the horizon.

Keep that suitcase handy. See you next month.
