Mission Produce Inc. completed the remodeling of the Fernado Montes De Oca School in Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico, according to a Dec. 13 press release. Mission is a global packer-shipper of avocados sourced from all over the world, with their largest packing location being in Uruapan.
Since the opening of Mission's Uruapan facility, the company has sought to give back to the surrounding community, the release stated. Fernado Montes De Oca School is an elementary school that was identified as the perfect cause because the building required updating, its student population is growing and many of Mission employees' children attend.
In the past year, Mission has sponsored the construction and furnishing of an entirely new classroom called a group workroom. The official inauguration date of the addition was Dec. 8, and many of Mission's corporate officers were in attendance for the official opening.
National Inventory Manager Tony Ecuyer was present for the ribbon cutting and said, "Education is critical to the success of today's youth, and we are proud to help provide an avenue for them to learn and develop into successful adults."
Mission is staying on course with making positive impacts in the Uruapan community. The company continues to support ongoing gardening and ground maintenance for the elementary campus and is working toward providing classroom supplies as well as physical education equipment. Additionally, Mission supports a daily breakfast program so the children can start each day with a nutritious meal.
It is an honor to be able to give back to the community of Uruapan, which contributes so much to the success of Mission's Mexican operations, the release stated. Mission looks forward to the ongoing support of the school and continues to seek new opportunities to contribute to the region.
