With consumers continuing to crave sweet onions, Barry Rogers is only too happy to comply. “Sweet onions have been a consumer favorite for a long time,” the president and chief executive officer of Sweet Onion Trading said Nov. 21. “But most consumers seem unaware that sweet onions are available all year. We have other varieties available upon special request, but our company’s primary focus is sweet onions. We don’t just say our onions are sweet. They are flavor-profiled and certified by an independent firm as to their flavor profiles.”
He said that the company, headquartered in Melbourne, FL, is marketing sweet onions grown from Archie 5, Archie 6, Century and a few other similar sweet onion seeds. Top-quality product is sourced year-round from domestic growers as well as from Peru, Chile and Mexico. “Quality is expected to be excellent,” he said of the product currently being marketed. “Big sizes have been short with our growers.”
Sweet onions are shipped to the company’s closest domestic packing facilities. Mr. Rogers said that customers are able to choose from a variety of packing options to meet their needs. Freighting costs are kept as low as possible through the use of shipping points convenient to distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Texas, Nevada, California and other national sales areas.
While the company’s retailers create their own promotions during the holidays, Mr. Rogers said Sweet Onion Trading does its part. “We support them by ensuring plentiful supplies of quality sweet onions for their customers,” he said.
