FoodLink, an on-line network for fresh food retailers, wholesalers and suppliers, announced its status as a certified partner to Giant Eagle Inc. and its produce team.
With 228 supermarket locations, Giant Eagle is one of the larger produce buyers in the country, offering selections from regional growers to global suppliers with a focus on the highest quality and freshness standards.
“We strive to offer our customers a wide selection of fresh, high-quality products at low everyday prices,” Craig Ignatz, vice president of produce for Giant Eagle Inc., said in an Oct. 11 press release. “FoodLink will be an important part of helping improve our operations to better serve these customers through more effective sourcing and partnering with a wide network of perishable goods suppliers.”
FoodLink, based in Los Gatos, CA, is an on-line network that connects the participants in the fragmented perishable goods supply chain. The network consists of more than 2,000 retail grocers and their fresh-food suppliers, including carriers and third-party brokers and wholesalers.
“Giant Eagle is well known as an innovative multi-format food and fuel retailer that makes smart use of their technology platforms,” Eric Peters, chief executive officer of FoodLink Online, added in the press release. “We look forward to helping Giant Eagle and all our retail and wholesale customers leverage the efficiency of the FoodLink network to better manage perishables ordering and to stay connected with their key fresh category suppliers.”
