Dave’s Specialty Imports, based in Coral Springs, FL, announced in an Oct. 6 press release a major advance in its brand and packaging. A bright, new logo features the image of a berry-sweetening sun rising above the company name.
The forward-looking changes honor the company founder, Dave Bowe, said his son Mike, one of several family members who run the family-owned business.
The company is one of the larger, year-round importers of fresh blueberries, blackberries and raspberries in North America. The company also plans to market red currants, strawberries and more organic products.
Dave Bowe began raising fruits and vegetables almost 70 years ago in the garden of the Cincinnati orphanage where he grew up. He established Dave’s Specialty Imports in Florida in 1992 after more than four decades of valuable experience working in every aspect of the fresh produce business.
Dave’s loyal clients include supermarkets, wholesalers and foodservice distributors for restaurants and institutions.
Dave Bowe still runs the company operations in Coral Springs. His son Mike is based in Cincinnati and son Chris runs the business in Pittsgrove, NJ. Both sons brought more than 40 years of combined experience in the retail and produce business to add to their father’s extensive knowledge and personal contacts in the growing, marketing and shipping of berries.
This year, the third generation joined the family operation when granddaughters Leslie Simmons and Jennifer Bowe, daughters of Mike, took positions in marketing and administration.
“We’ve got a great new look,” said Mike Bowe. “But we still do business the old-fashioned way — we’re committed to excellent customer service.
“We’re a family-run company, not some giant, impersonal corporation with many levels of management,” he said. “We get the job done. We keep our promises.”
The lively new logo in natural colors of sky blue and earth green displays a bright, gold sun rising above the company name. The name Dave’s is written in flowing blue script against a clear, sky-blue background. The clear, plastic clamshell package reveals the visibly fresh product.
In addition to the new logo and packaging, Dave’s soon will be launching a new and updated web site with a company blog to keep berry-lovers informed of seasonal updates, new products, and other news and information of interest.
