Lone Wolf recovering from fire

A fire of unknown origin destroyed the main offices and wash plant of Lone Wolf Farms in Minto, ND, on Sept. 25. Firefighters from Minto and Grafton, ND, and Oslo, MN, responded to the scene but could not save the facility. The business has been owned and operated by the Bjorneby family since 1938. The company ships red potatoes to the domestic marketplace.

Partner Chris Bjorneby said Lone Wolf is still conducting business despite the loss. The wash plant was scheduled to open in the coming weeks before it was consumed by the fire. Potatoes are still being dug. “Half of our crop has places for storage,” he told The Produce News Sept. 28. “We are working through plans for reconstruction.”

Mr. Bjorneby said he appreciated the response of other Red River Valley potato producers to assist Lone Wolf during this time.
