Sun World International LLC, based in Bakersfield, CA, announced the appointment of Claudio Olave to the position of director of quality assurance and food safety.
Mr. Olave will oversee quality standards and inspection protocols for Sun World’s grape, pepper, stone fruit and citrus offerings, and will be responsible for implementing new technologies, processes and packaging materials that enhance product quality and shelf life. He will also oversee the company’s food-safety program including the coordination of all third-party audits, compliance with all federal, state, local and customer-specific food-safety requirements, and consumer-unit and efforts related to the Produce Traceability Initiative.
“At Sun World, we pack and ship every carton of fresh fruit with an eye out for quality and food safety,” Al Vangelos, president and chief executive officer of Sun World International, said in an Aug. 23 press release. “Claudio’s expertise and leadership will further strengthen our robust programs and ensure, for the sake of our customers, consumers and employees, that we are on the leading edge of quality-assurance and food-safety initiatives.”
Mr. Olave has extensive experience in quality assurance. Prior to joining Sun World, he served as the U.S. managing director for Chile-based Decofrut, where he worked for over 14 years in quality-assurance related roles.
