By the time 2012 rolls around, Green Tree International will hit its fourth year benchmark brokering pears from the Pacific Northwest. The company is headquartered in Visalia, CA, and has a brokerage office in Wenatchee, WA.
Green Tree brokers pears to all market sectors in the continental United States, selling all varieties grown in the region. The company sources the bulk of its pears from Washington, with a small volume coming from Oregon. Sales Associate Brett Hull was asked how the 2011-12 pear season is progressing. “Right now, we’re hearing that the crop will be a larger than average,” he said Aug. 3. “The crop is seven to 10 days behind normal.” The Green Bartlett harvest is expected to begin at the end of August or beginning of September.
Mr. Hull could not guess as to fresh pear sizing owing to the delay. “We’re a little unclear what the tonnage will be,” he said. But taking all factors into count, he expects overall volume could increase somewhere from 10-15 percent.
