Quebec-based Hydroserre Mirabel Inc., Veg Pro International Inc., and Vergers Paul Jodoin Inc., all recently expanded their product lines, offering consumers new varieties, new packaging and new size options.
Hydroserre Mirabel Inc. of Mirabel, Quebec, recently introduced three new types of Salanova lettuce: Oakleaf, Fleur de Mirabel and Frisé, all available in red and green in a dual package. These varieties are not on retail yet, but can be obtained through a distributor.
“It’s great to be able to give two colours in three different varieties of lettuce to our customers,” said Daniel Terrault, vice president of business development. “It gives us a chance to give something local and fresh to consumers with an element of Quebec.” Hydroserre’s other lettuce lines include Boston and Maché.
Veg Pro International Inc. of Sherrington, Quebec is offering Fresh Attitude Yellow Cooking Onions in a new Fresh Attitude onion bag. The packaging allows for a much cleaner product.
“The plastic has great airflow, so the onion is dry and shelf life is not affected,” said Pierre Dolbec, vice president of sales and procurement-commodities. The attractive packaging displays well, which Dolbec believes will allow retailers to sell more. “It enables us to brand, which was not really an option before,” he said.
Vergers Paul Jodoin Inc. of St-Jean-Baptiste, Quebec, launched a new organic shelf-stable 300 ml option for its Tradition Organic line in apple peach and pear flavours. The company is also known for its fresh sweet apple cider, made with fresh juice and carbon dioxide, with no added ingredients.
National key account manager Jean-François Giroux said, “It’s been a busy year. We are gaining some momentum in Ontario because we partnered up with Mike and Mike’s, which is doing an awesome job for us for everything organic in Ontario.”
