The majority of the Midwest and Northeast — including numerous growing regions — will experience their first major heat wave of the summer this weekend. The combination of excessive heat and humidity will lead to heat indexes of well above 100 — and even approaching 110.weat

This heat should break on Monday or Tuesday depending on location. Expect high temperatures to drop by an average of 10 degrees from one day to the next once the heat wave breaks.

For those of you dealing with citrus out of Chile please be aware the forecast is for freezing minimum temps and rain this upcoming Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The storm will hit Sunday with up to 0.5 inches of rain across all growing regions and possibly higher in isolated areas. Minimum temps for Sunday through Tuesday night are forecasted to between 28 and 33 depending on location and day. Maximum temps for these three days will be in the 40s and low 50s.

Right now, the main shadehouse growing regions in Mexico as well as Oceanside Pole in San Diego County are experiencing perfect weather.

On the eastern side of Mexico in the region of Torreon, Coahuila, which is a major summer region for shadehouse veg, steady temps rule the day with highs in the 90s and lows in the low 70s and no chance of rain. Expect quality and volumes to be good.

On the west coast of Mexico in the San Quintin region of Baja California they are also experiencing ideal growing conditions. Max temps will be in the mid- to upper 70s for the next 10 days, and min temps in the mid- to upper 60s. There is no chance of moisture in the 10-day forecast.

Oceanside Pole tomatoes grown in Oceanside, CA, will see temps warming over the next 10 days. Today’s max temp for the area will be 73 with a min temp of 62. By next Tuesday expect the max temp to be 80 and a min of 68. As this area is just starting their season look for these warmer temps to really bring on production. Quality should be excellent.
