Incredible Fresh?s produce and dairy lines sold to partnership

Naples, FL-based Incredible Fresh, which bought and sold a full line of fruits and vegetables including imported specialty items, has sold its produce and dairy lines to a partnership made up of three separate partners.

The three partners " each with a one-third stake in the new company " are Naples-based Brad Young, who had been vice president of sales and marketing for Monterey, CA-based Pro*Act LLC; Atlanta-based Royal Food Service; and Richmond, VA-based Produce Source Partners Virginia. They have named their company Incredible Fresh Produce & Dairy Co., and will remain a distributor for Pro*Act " a leader in foodservice produce supply-chain management. The old Incredible Fresh was a Pro*Act distributor in southwest Florida, but that is no longer the case following the sale. That company will focus on its fast-growing value-added line of retail packs " primarily diced and sliced vegetables " for supermarkets.

Both Incredible Fresh and Incredible Fresh Produce & Dairy Co. will continue to operate out of Incredible Fresh?s 34,000-square-foot refrigerated facility for now. Mr. Young said that Incredible Fresh?s facility " which handles seafood among its lines " is operating over capacity and that the produce and dairy are exceeding their space allotment. He and his partners intend to construct a new distribution facility in the Naples area either this year or in 2006, he said.

?We?re desirous to have a facility designed to sell the products we want to sell," Mr. Young said. He noted that his company wants to be the answer for perishables, and that frozen foods eventually may be among many changes and additions to its product line.

Mr. Young has had a long association with Incredible Fresh dating back to 1997-98, when he was the company?s director of sales and marketing before becoming Pro*Act?s Southeast regional director of client services. He said that he had sought a stake in Incredible Fresh years ago through owner Jack Roberts. Both Royal Food Service and Produce Source Partners Virginia expressed interest in partnering with Mr. Young if the opportunity arose, he said.

?I didn?t think it was going to occur," Mr. Young told The Produce News March 1. Nevertheless, the deal came together over the past four months, he said.

The dairy component " a complete line of fluids and cultured dairy products " accounts for about 10 percent of the business and is "very complementary with produce," Mr. Young said. Pro*Act requires that its member companies carry dairy.

Mr. Young resigned from Pro*Act effective Feb. 28, and officially began with Incredible Fresh Produce & Dairy Co. on March 1. He is the company?s president, and he will represent the company on behalf of Pro*Act. Mr. Young said that Incredible Fresh Produce & Dairy Co."s distribution will remain within Florida and that eventually he would like to see its distribution reach as far north as the Port Charlotte area some 100 miles from the current Naples facility.

Mr. Young said that after six years with Pro*Act, he believes he "leaves the company in better shape? than when he started, and that the company is in good hands under the leadership of Steve Grinstead " Pro*Act?s president and chief executive officer " and others.

?When you go away [from Pro*Act], you never really go away," Mr. Young said.

Mr. Grinstead said that Pro*Act will seek a replacement for Mr. Young.

?We?re very appreciative of all Brad did to help grow and develop Pro*Act," Mr. Grinstead said. "We look forward to working with him and we?re excited for him " we think it's a great opportunity [for him]."
