  Daniel Jalil was born and raised in New Jersey in the suburbs of New York City. He graduated in 2000 from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, with a bachelor of arts degree in English and communications, and after apprenticing under a wood artisan, he joined The Produce News in May 2001 as assistant editor. In August 2005, he was promoted to managing editor.

Dan lives with his wife, Erica, in Montclair, NJ. He is an avid snowboarder and frequents the live music scene in New Jersey and New York. He enjoys travel, large-scale historic home renovation and restoration, wood and mixed medium art fabrication, free- standing fountain design and fabrication, SCUBA diving, skydiving, wakeboarding, family, automotive improvement and maintenance, preparing international and domestic cuisine, computer construction, electronics, and he dabbles in home winemaking.
