Joel Gebet grew up on Long Island, NY, and moved to New Jersey in the mid- 1990s. He earned his bachelor's degree in journalism and mass media in 2002 from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, joined The Produce News in May 2005 as an account executive and was promoted to Canadian sales manager and Canadian editor in March 2006. He handles all advertising sales in Canada, as well as planning and implementing editorial coverage of Canadian clientele and issues. Prior to The Produce News, he worked as a reporter and writer for several newspapers and trade magazines, including The Star Ledger, New Jersey's largest newspaper. Most recently, he worked as a contract investigator for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, where he conducted background investigations for prospective and current federal employees requiring security clearances. Joel was a volunteer firefighter for 10 years and enjoys collecting firematic memorabilia as well as photography, tennis and travel.
