Killeen rejoins NewStar to lead foodservice efforts

MONTEREY, CA -- John Killeen has rejoined NewStar Fresh Foods, based in Salinas, CA, to lead the firm's

Mr. Killeen, who was named to the new position of vice president of foodservice at NewStar, previously worked for the company for five years, rising to the position of vice president of sales and marketing, before leaving three years ago to join Muranaka Farms as vice president of sales and marketing.

"This is a great opportunity to work with some familiar and new faces," he told The Produce News July 31 at the Produce Marketing Association's 30th annual Foodservice Conference & Expo, held here July 29-31. "I will be selling both the 'Organic Girl' brand of organic product as well as the 'NewStar' brand of product to foodservice accounts.

At the 2011 Foodservice conference, Mr. Killeen was promoting NewStar's "Power Greens" product, which is a mix of baby red and green Swiss chard, baby Tat Soi and baby spinach.

Mr. Killeen started his career with Dole Fresh Fruit in 1989 and was involved in both citrus and banana sales. He also worked at Tanimura & Antle twice in his career, holding the positions in sales, marketing and business development.
