Annual barbecue benefits California charities

by Press Release | July 20, 2011

At California Giant Berry Farms, staff and executives alike rolled up their sleeves recently to host a community barbecue supporting three local charitable organizations.

This year marks the 7th annual Skirt Steak Fundraiser BBQ held at California Giant offices in Watsonville, CA, and proved to be the biggest one yet.

Over 800 lunches were prepared by the California Giant staff served to members of the Jacob’s Heart Foundation (a children’s cancer support organization), Children’s Hospice and the Women’s Crisis Center, which had representatives on hand at the event to help distribute information about their organizations and sell drinks to those enjoying lunch at California Giant.  All three organizations support families in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.

Much of the food and supplies for the event were either donated or sponsored by local companies and vendor partners of California Giant, including Pactiv Corp., Coast Produce, Cool-Pak, FDS, Church Bros., Taylor Farms, Custom Produce and Golden Sheaf Bread.

“It was great to see our employees working together to support these very worthy organizations, and bring so many members of our community together for a good cause,” Bill Moncovich, president of California Giant, said in a July 19 press release.

“We continue to be impressed by our staff as they show passion for volunteerism and support the community with a variety of fundraisers all year long,” Pat Riordan, co-owner of California Giant, added in the press release.

The barbecue raised over $8,300 for the local organizations. Additional events are planned for the rest of the summer that will add to the funds raised to share with these organizations and others within the community.
