Naturipe to promote berries on popular morning show

by John Groh | June 17, 2011

Naturipe Farms has teamed up with The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television to promote the health, great taste and versatility of the summer’s fresh berries. The segment is scheduled to air June 23 and July 12, coinciding with the peak of the domestic blueberry season, Fourth of July and Back to School retail promotions. The popular cable morning show airs daily from 7-8 a.m. and is watched by over 2 million viewers.

“Naturipe Farms is pleased to be working with The Balancing Act this summer,” Robert Verloop, executive vice president of marketing at Naturipe, said in a June 15 press release. “The recent unveiling of the [U.S. Department of Agriculture’s] new MyPlate icon is generating a lot of positive media about the benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables, so the timing couldn’t be better. Today, busy families are looking for naturally delicious products that are a healthy and convenient replacement to salty and sugary snacks. The versatility of berries makes them an easy addition to any plate or as a quick snack.”

The five-minute segment highlights the benefits of fresh berries and features one of Naturipe’s family farmers, Kable Munger of Munger Farms based in Delano, CA.

“Naturipe consists of many longtime multi-generational family farms like ours, who grow a variety of fresh berries across North [America] and South America,” Mr. Munger explains in the segment. “May, June and July are the peak harvest months for blueberries as well as a prime season for fresh strawberries.”

Naturipe offers consumers a variety of pack sizes during that time of year to allow consumers ample opportunities to enjoy the mid-year abundant crop. This summer, the company introduced a new line of washed and ready-to-eat blueberries called “Naturipe Berry Quick Snacks.”

According to Mr. Munger, who was instrumental in the development of the line, “These new, convenient 3-in-1 single-serve blueberry packs are perfect for on-the-go snacking, great for kid’s lunch boxes or for adding to bowls of oatmeal, yogurt or salad.”

The product is individually portioned, washed and ready-to-eat, and the packaging prevent the berries from being damaged, plus they can be stored for up to two weeks in a refrigerator.

For retailers and restaurant operators, the product is a welcome addition to Naturipe’s core product line, and it enables adults and kids alike to enjoy a quick and healthy snack.

“We see the ‘Berry Quick’ blueberry snacks as a line extension designed to create more consumer ‘berry behavior’ while offering a great-tasting snack alternative,” Mr. Verloop added in the press release. “The ‘Berry Quick’ fresh blueberries are a great way to get on the right track to eat well and stay fit. The convenience of the new ‘Berry Quick’ snack will be a win-win for trade partners, parents and kids.”
