Industry veteran David Hicks has joined Brooks, OR-based Curry & Co. to help
the firm continue its onion business growth domestically and internationally.
Mr. Hicks, a New Mexico State University graduate, has worked for more than
two decades in a number of different roles with grower-shipper-packers.
Most recently, he was part of a team that helped design a new baby carrot
packing facility on the East Coast, and he also assisted in recruiting growers
for the new facility.
Food safety, traceback and sustainability are additional areas in which Mr.
Hicks has experience. Not only has he helped develop new programs, he has
been responsible for updating and bringing existing warehouses and crops up
to industry standards. He has been closely involved with retail and
foodservice sales and marketing efforts and has helped negotiate contracts,
programs and supply agreements with national and regional buying groups.
"I find produce to be such a fascinating industry, and I love being part of a
program where I can see the product go from the seed to the final customer,"
Mr. Hicks said in an Aug. 25 press release. “It is a rewarding experience.”
