Houweling's Hot House appoints industry veterans to management team

Delta, BC-based Houweling's Hot House Group has appointed Brian Beggs
chief marketing officer and Craig Laker director of sales and marketing. Both
men will join the organization effective Sept. 7.
Mr. Beggs joined Houweling’s after serving as president of BC Hot House
Foods Inc., where he led the greenhouse marketing company’s overall
business operations. He brings to Houweling’s extensive senior-management
experience in multiple industries that spans over 40 years. He will focus on
business development, marketing and strategic planning, and he will be
based at Houweling’s facility in Oxnard, CA.
Mr. Laker has joined Houweling’s after serving as director of sales and global
procurement for BC Hot House Foods Inc., where he was instrumental in
building the greenhouse category during the past 25 years. He has 40 years
of experience in produce sales, procurement, inventory management and
logistics and will focus on expanding Houweling’s capabilities in these areas.
Mr. Laker will be initially based at Houweling’s facility in Delta, BC.
Messrs. Beggs and Laker will function as integral parts of Houweling’s
executive team in charting the future direction of Houweling Nurseries Group.
Casey Houweling, the firm’s president and chief executive officer, said in an
Aug. 31 press release, "These individuals have seasoned sales and marketing
backgrounds that are necessary to align the organization’s operational
strengths with effective product marketing to trade customers and
consumers, particularly in key West Coast markets."
Kirk Homenick, the previous director of sales and marketing, had earlier
indicated his desire to pursue other career interests. Over the last 18 months,
he has worked closely with Houweling’s distributor partner, The Oppenheimer
Group, while developing sales opportunities through other channels. Mr.
