Following a planned leadership succession process, the board of directors of A. Duda & Sons Inc., a diversified land company based in Oviedo, FL, has elected David J. Duda to succeed Joseph A. Duda as chief executive officer of the family-owned corporation, effective Aug. 30.

David Duda, 48, who has served as president and CEO-designate of the company since September 2009, is the first member of the fourth generation of the Duda family to hold the top executive position.

"We congratulate David on his election following a well planned leadership succession process," F.S. Duda, chairman of the board, said in an Aug. 10 press release. “David was selected from candidates within and outside of the Duda company and family. His skills, experience and strong sense of the opportunities that lay ahead for our diversified, family-owned business will keep us well positioned for future generations.”

In his 22 years with the company, Mr. Duda has gained broad knowledge of its diversified operations. He previously served as chief administrative officer, responsible for the corporation's administrative services, and as chief financial officer. He is a graduate of the University of Florida, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in food and resource economics and a master of business administration degree in finance.

Joseph Duda, 68, is retiring following 45 years with the corporation. He spent his early years with the company leading the cattle division, and later served as an executive vice president responsible for corporate services. As CEO of the company’s real estate development subsidiary, The Viera Co., he was instrumental in bringing to life the initial vision for the master-planned community of Viera in Brevard County. He was elected CEO of the corporation in 2005.

Joseph Duda will continue to serve in a consulting capacity for both the real estate and cattle operations, and he was elected to serve on the corporation’s board of directors.
