Lorri Koster is honored at Women in Produce reception

LAS VEGAS, NV -- At the annual Reception Honoring Women in Produce held here Wednesday, April 21, in connection with the United Fresh Produce Association's 2010 convention and trade show, Lorri Koster, co-chairman of Mann Packing Co. in Salinas, CA, received the 2010 Award of Excellence for a Woman in Produce.

Ms. Koster, who represents the third generation in her family to work in agriculture, began her produce career in 1990 at Mann Packng Co., her family's business, as communications and marketing director. She was subsequently vice president of as well as publisher and editorial director of Coastal Grower magazine. While continuing in that capacity, she rejoined Mann Packing in 2006.

Ms. Koster is a member of the United Fresh board of directors. She is also active with the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement and the Produce for Better Health Foundation. She is currently chairman of the Grower- Shipper Association of Central California and past chairman of the International Fresh-cut Produce Association.

Among the previous accolades Ms. Koster has received are Outstanding Young Farmer, Outstanding Young Californian and Ag Woman of the Year.

Ms. Koster was a featured speaker at the Reception Honoring Women in Produce, where she told those in attendance that the key to a company's survival is the ability to adapt and adjust its business model to changing situations.
