Utah Onions announced that it has entered into a sales collaboration with Granger, WA-based grower R.A. Rasmussen & Sons under which Utah Onions will now handle all onion sales for the grower's 800 acres of yellow and red onions.

"We are pleased to announce that we have made some upgrades to our sales program," Greg Rasmussen, owner of R.A. Rasmussen & Sons, wrote in a recent letter to the firm's customers. "We are working diligently to make this a smooth transition for all of our loyal customers."

The Granger, WA-based farm produces over-winter yellows and reds that are harvested and shipped from the end of June to mid-July, as well as storage yellows and reds from early August to mid-October. The farm yields approximately 1 million 50-pound bags.

Shawn Hartley, owner and vice president of sales of Syracuse, UT-based Utah Onions, will be handling the account.

"Utah Onions is proud to be representing Rasmussen & Sons," Mr. Hartley said in a press release. "This partnership will allow us to continue offering the highest-quality onions for an extended period of time, making us a grower- shipper that is able to supply customers on a year-round basis."

Vertical integration is an important part of Utah Onion's business plan, and the partnership will create one more level of integration not offered by many growers, according to the company. Utah Onions has become a one-stop shop for the growing, packing, shipping, buying and selling of onions. The company will continue to grow and ship from its locations in Syracuse/Corrine, UT, Prosser and Granger, WA, and Nyssa, OR.
