DILLSBURG, PA -- The nation's apple harvest yielded a vintage crop of apples in 2009, and many retailers took that opportunity to display and feature apples in their produce departments this fall.

During the three-month merchandising window of September through November, the retail trade had the opportunity to feature early to late-season varieties as well as many local and regional varieties. Retailers found success in adding the partner products of Marzetti Caramel Apple Dips, JIF Natural Peanut Butter and Smucker's Natural Peanut Butter products to increase register rings.

National Apple Month Director Kay Rentzel is encouraging all retailers to document their display activity and submit it to the National Apple Month Program for the chance at more than $10,000 in cash prizes.

Entries must be submitted to 22 Triplett Court, Dillsburg, PA, 10019 by Jan. 1, 2010, and should contain the official entry form along with at least one photo of the display. The entry form is available at www.usapple.org/industry/applemonth, by contacting National Apple Month at ksrentzel@aol.com or calling 717/432-0090.
