Tropical and specialty produce veteran Peter Leifermann has joined J&C Tropicals in Miami as its sales and category management representative.

Mr. Leifermann resigned from Fresh King Inc. in July. Prior to that, he was managing partner at C-Brands Tropicals Inc. Both firms are located in Homestead, FL.

"Peter comes to us with great skill sets and a long history of experience with Florida tropical produce," said Jessie Capote, vice president of operations for J&C Tropicals. "He has been a friend and colleague to J&C for a long time, so he knew our operation well. After leaving Fresh King, he reached out to the community. We had lunch to discuss our company's growth goals and his aspirations. Soon after, I called him for some advice on a Florida avocado grove, and that's when we decided it was to our mutual advantage for him to join our firm."

"My experience has been in Florida tropicals," said Mr. Leifermann. "I have worked for many years in bringing lychee, longan fruit, passion fruit, star fruit, dragon fruit, tai guava, monstera -- a little known heirloom fruit of the tropics -- and other Florida items to the retail market."

Mr. Leifermann said that he would continue working in these fields in his new position with J&C Tropicals, but now he will be teamed with a company of the size, scope and commitment to growing its business in all directions that he had hoped to find.

"Jessie, Adrian and Carlos Capote and everyone else here at J&C Tropicals have found true opportunity during this recessionary period," said Mr. Leifermann. "Their lines of Hispanic and tropical produce are growing rapidly. They are forward thinking and dedicated and are pushing the development of these lines so we can move them from the specialty category to the dinner plates of all Americans."

"We're extremely happy to have Peter on board," said Adrian Capote, vice president of sales and co-owner. "He's a perfect fit personally, and he aligns with our commitment to be the industry leader in tropical produce." "Peter will help us strengthen our Florida produce programs as well as diversify our international product lines," added Jessie Capote.
