by | September 03, 2009
Suntreat, a provider of premium California citrus in Lindsay, CA, announced Aug. 27 that it has hired Al Imbimbo as its vice president of sales. Mr. Imbimbo assumed his new role with the company on Aug. 17.

With Tom Roberts, director of sales and marketing, retiring after 38 years, Mr. Imbimbo will be responsible for directing all sales activities for the company. Suntreat said that it is planning an aggressive growth strategy that emphasizes introduction of new varieties and enhanced specialty citrus product offerings.

"Suntreat has been a cornerstone in the California citrus deal for 50 years and is in a great position to continue their successful history of growth and expansion," Mr. Imbimbo said in an Aug. 27 press release. "The company is well known for their late-summer Navel program and has an outstanding reputation for consistency in terms of overall quality. We are undertaking a new direction with a focus on creating new varieties to capitalize on some significant opportunities ahead. I am thrilled to join an organization with such a strong innovative spirit and look forward to working with their team going forward."

Mr. Imbimbo joins Suntreat having spent the past five years with Sunkist as director of sales for national accounts and in the same position most recently for its citrus, juice and oils division. Prior to Sunkist, he worked for Paramount Citrus for 11 years, serving as its director of sales.

Mr. Imbimbo earned his business degree from Fresno State University and is a graduate of the United Fresh Produce Industry Leadership Program.

"One of the first jobs I had as a teenager was working in Suntreat's packinghouse. After all these years, to return to a company that I admire is like a dream come true. Citrus is in my blood. I have a great passion for this category. When I consider Suntreat's reputation in the marketplace and the possibilities before us, this is an ideal situation for me," Mr. Imbimbo said in the release.

"Tom leaves some big shoes to fill. This is an unbelievable opportunity to have someone of Al's knowledge, proven track record and vision join our team," Mike George, general manager, said in the release. "Al understands the need to drive excellence throughout every facet of the organization as we continue to strive to meet the current and future needs of our valued customers. We are hoping to usher in a new era for everyone associated with Suntreat."
