Produce Traceability Learning Center announced for Fresh Summit

NEWARK, DE -- Produce supply chain members looking for traceability solutions at Produce Marketing Association's Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition will find it all in the Produce Traceability Learning Center on the expo floor when the convention convenes Oct. 2-5 in Anaheim, CA.
The Produce Traceability Learning Center offers an opportunity for convention attendees from across the produce supply chain to:
* Learn more about the Produce Traceability Initiative and its seven milestones to achieve chainwide, electronic product traceability at the case level.
* Participate in related learning opportunities, including a live milestone workshops and Q&As with retailers.
* Pick up a copy of a new brochure on the basics of the PTI.
* Talk one on one with leading produce traceability experts including PMA Vice President of Industry Technology & Standards Gary Fleming and representatives from the standards-setting organization GS1 U.S.
* Examine traceability solutions from leading traceability solution companies.
"The Produce Traceability Learning Center is designed to offer a one-stop resource for what we know is one of the hottest issues facing our industry today: traceability," Mr. Fleming said in an Aug. 5 press release. "The center is just one way that PMA is working to fulfill our promise as a PTI co- sponsoring association to help our members address the vital issue of traceability, and to take our industry's traceability capability to the next, needed level."
When asked who should plan to visit the center, Mr. Fleming replied that all Fresh Summit attendees who handle produce at the case level, including packer-shippers and marketers, distributors and wholesalers, retailers and foodservice. He encouraged any and all companies with solutions that can help industry members implement the PTI's vision of case-level traceability to exhibit in the center.
The center will be open during all expo hours: Saturday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Monday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

PMA will also conduct a workshop on traceability as part of the Fresh Summit educational programming. PTI: Implementation of Best Practices will take place during Workshop Series I Friday, Oct. 2, from 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. Workshop speakers will be Mr. Fleming; Tom Casas, Tanimura & Antle's vice president of information technology and mechanization; and Mike O'Brien, Schnucks Markets' vice president of produce and floral.
