SunnyRidge joins forces with Michigan blueberry shipper

by | April 19, 2009
SunnyRidge Farm, based in Winter Haven, FL, has entered into a partnership with Leduc Blueberries LLC, based in Paw Paw, MI. The firms will be working together to promote high-quality Michigan blueberries to a wide range of valued customers.

The new partnership will be called BlueberryRidge LLC and will be packing under the "SunnyRidge Farm" label.

BlueberryRidge LLC will be operating from a state-of-the-art packing, pre- cooling and cold storage facility located in Paw Paw. The partnership will provide SunnyRidge Farm customers with the quality blueberries and custom packs that their stores need and that consumers are demanding. The company will also be farming committed acreage while continuing to expand the operation with contract growers in the area, ensuring proper food safety along the way. All of this will enable SunnyRidge to provide its customers with the quality and reliability of supply that they have come to expect.

"The future success of this partnership is based on working with a handful of large, quality growers who are committed to implementing cultural and harvesting programs to ensure the delivery of only the finest berries that Michigan has to offer," Keith Mixon, chief executive officer of SunnyRidge Farm, added in the press release. "Only the gold standard of Michigan blueberries will do."

The Michigan season typically runs from the beginning of July through the end of September. During the 2008 season, SunnyRidge Farm represented 2.4 million pounds of blueberries -- or 5 percent of the fresh market -- delivering some of the higher grower returns in the area while assuring proper cultural, harvesting and quality standards are achieved. SunnyRidge anticipates growing its market share to 15-20 percent during the 2009 season through the new partnership.
