David Kannenstine dies at 47

David Kannenstine, vice president of New York metro sales and marketing for Red Jacket Orchards in Geneva, NY, died surrounded by his family March 18 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 47.
Mr. Kannenstine headed the New York City office of the family-owned-and- operated orchard and juice company, where he worked for 12 years.
According to a memorial posting on the Red Jacket web site, "Dave's contributions to not only our family business but to the local food movement in metro New York were immense. His ability to build personal connections with those he worked with and passion for bringing local food to the city he loved will be treasured by those who had the honor to know him."
Mr. Kannenstine is survived by his son, Rainer Kannenstine; his life partner Louise Barder; his parents, Louis and Margaret Kannenstine; his sister, Emily Kannenstine; and his stepdaughters, Lily Wen and Florence Wen.
A memorial celebration in New York is being planned at the Angel Orensanz Center on the Lower East Side in Manhattan for Saturday, April 4. Further details will be posted at www.davidkannenstine.blogspot.com.
