ORADELL, NJ -- The Produce News has promoted Lora Abcarian to Northwest editor, where she will help direct editorial coverage in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Colorado. Ms. Abcarian had been a regional correspondent since joining the publication in 2005.

Kathleen Thomas, who had held the position of Northwest editor, will now concentrate her efforts on advertising sales in that region.

"Lora has proven to be a valuable part of our editorial team and is a key factor in our growing success in the Northwest," said John Groh, editor and publisher of The Produce News. "We feel that Kathleen and Lora make a solid team that will continue to provide top-notch coverage in this important part of the country."

"My association with the fresh produce industry has been very rewarding," Ms. Abcarian said. "I have come to know so many wonderful people on both personal and professional levels. I am looking forward to strengthening those relationships and creating new ties within the industry. I am excited about the future challenges of my work."

Prior to joining The Produce News, Ms. Abcarian worked for The Flume, a weekly newspaper in Park County, CO, from 2000 to 2006. She was initially hired as a reporter and was eventually named its managing editor in 2002. She resigned from this position in 2006 to become more fully involved with The Produce News.

Ms. Abcarian, who has lived in Colorado for the past 25 years, earned her bachelor's degree in English as well as her master's degree in communications from Florida State University in Tallahassee. In addition to her extensive career in journalism and communications, she has also worked as a professional photographer for the past 35 years.
