Kathy Maynard Wilson, who has 24 years of experience in produce sales and marketing and who has spent the last four years at Ito Packing in Reedley, CA, has joined the sales team at Scattaglia Growers & Shippers LLC, doing business as SGS, a grape and stone fruit marketing organization based in Traver, CA.
Ms. Wilson is "a real complement to the SGS team," said Dave Parker, director of marketing. "Her experience is going to be good for us, and she will fit in really well with this experienced sales team at SGS."
"Today is my first day" at SGS, Ms. Wilson told The Produce News Jan. 5. "I just left Ito. I was with them for four years. Prior to Ito, I was at New Leaf for four years."
The SGS offices are located in the New Leaf cold storage facility, "so I went full circle and I'm back in the same place," she noted.
Earlier, Ms. Wilson had been on the sales desk at Sun Valley Packing in Reedley, CA.
"My very first produce job ever was at Index Mutual," an avocado packing and shipping company now known as Index Fresh, she said. She started there in 1985, and it was her "first produce job out of college" after receiving a bachelor's degree in marketing from San Diego State University. "I was actually wearing two hats when I went to work at Index," she said. "I started right out in sales" and also worked in marketing, developing marketing materials and marketing strategies and working on new business development.
"Actually, I had quite a few choices come my way," Ms. Wilson said of her departure from Ito Packing, explaining that she chose SGS because she was impressed with the grower base and with the regional nature of the operation, which gives the company some of the earlier fruit out of California as well as some of the later fruit. "When I started to analyze the overall quality and volume of the tree fruit and grapes [at SGS], I felt they had the best program, a very solid foundation."
